Florida Grand Opera Presents Così Fan Tutte This Weekend!

6:05 PM

If you are on the lookout for something amazing, this weekend launches the latest the program from the 2014-2015 season brought to you by the Florida Grand Opera! With a modern spin on a classic from Mozart, Così fan Tutte starts this weekend in Miami at the Adrienne Arscht Center. For more information and images, read below:

In FGO’s interpretation, Così is the story of two sisters (Fiordiligi and Dorabella) away on vacation who attract the attention of a pair of exotic suitors. Flirtation quickly turns to infatuation, but eventually it is revealed that these suitors are, in fact, their own fiancés (Ferrando and Guglielmo) who have disguised themselves to test the women’s fidelity.
Although this story is typically set in 18th-century Italy, with a little elbow grease and ingenuity, FGO has revitalized their production to infuse this Mozart masterpiece with contemporary context and feel more “present day.” For this FGO production, Mozart is coming to Monaco.

Like Miami, Monaco is unquestionably an international capital of luxury. The rich and famous from around the world flock to Monte Carlo’s fabulous beaches, casinos, and to the Monaco Grand Prix…the characters in Così being no exception.

FGO’s updated production will take place at a luxurious hotel in modern-day Europe. The opera tells the story of two young military officers, Ferrando and Guglielmo, visiting their fiancées (sisters Dorabella and Fiordiligi) who, in this production, are away on vacation. The men make a bet with an older friend, Don Alfonso, that their fiancées will remain faithful to them under any circumstance. Don Alfonso arranges for the men to leave the sisters but to immediately return in disguise to seduce the women. The sisters protest at first, but quickly fall for the other’s lover, creating a situation where the men cheat on the women by way of the women cheating on the men. When the trick is revealed, all is forgiven, but will their lives ever be the same again? If you find the ending a little unsettling, you’ve gotten the point!

I don't think I can make it sound any better! So if you're looking to watch something fabulous, here are the upcoming dates:
